Recently returned from the Software Test and Performance conference in Boston. The conference was small, with a variety of presenters doing multiple sessions. Good presenters and all, but I find the value of a conference like this comes from multiple perspectives.
One interesting perspective that I picked up was Amazon.com’s take on software testers. Amazon.com had a booth in the expo hall and were there to recruit. It seems they have multiple positions open for technical testers. Their booth even featured a “find the problem with this code” type exercise, where prospective testers had to find the bugs in the code.
Equally impressive were the salary ranges. The salaries numbers they were throwing around were much more in line with developer salaries, which I guess makes sense given the level of technical ability they were looking for. All very interesting…

That’s really interesting. Didn’t know that jobs like that even existed.

I was surprised myself…You can see more about the jobs on the Amazon job board. They currently have 6 testing positions open in Seattle, WA. Search under “Systems Quality”.
